One of the advantages of joining the Mid-Island Woodworkers Guild is being able to participate in our Wood Recovery Program. The Guild harvests and mills wood from trees which grew here on Vancouver Island. These are trees which needed to be cut down for various reasons. The Guild collects the logs and then mills them using a Wood-Mizer owned by one of our Guild members.
Supporting our Local Schools
As part of the Wood Recovery Program, the Mid-Island Woodworkers Guild donates bursaries and wood to local public schools in the central Vancouver Island region in order to help foster and grow interest in woodworking amongst the young people in our community. Please view our Community Service page for more details.
In addition to the donations we make each year to the local public schools, the wood collected via our wood recovery program is also available for sale to members of the Mid-Island Woodworkers Guild and to members of our affiliate Guilds here on Vancouver Island:
Pricing for the wood varies. Live-edge slabs are available starting at the low price of $2.50 per board-foot. Turning blanks vary in price from $5.00 to $30.00 depending on the size, quality and wood-type.
For more information about our Wood Recovery Program, or if you have a tree that you need to cut down and would like to donate, please contact our Wood Recovery Chair at woodrecovery@miwg.ca.
