The Mid-Island Woodworkers’ Guild (MIWG) puts a priority on the health and safety of our members and the community at large. Recommendations from Public Health Authorities directed toward many community activities have caused the MIWG Executive to cancel all in-person Guild meetings since the spring of 2020. The fate of future meetings will be considered as the impact of COVID-19 continues to be assessed. Hopefully later this year we’ll be able to start meeting in person again. Keep your finger crossed!
In the meantime, regular monthly Guild meetings and presentations are being held “virtually” using Zoom. Shop tours are being filmed and videos are being posted to YouTube. Activities such as wood sales continue to be held in-person, while respecting the current Public Health Authority guidelines.
MIWG members meet on the second Wednesday of each month (except for July and August) at 6:30 PM in Meeting Room A at Nanaimo District Secondary School (NDSS). There is plenty of parking and the room is extremely centrally located.
The address is officially 355 Wakesiah Avenue (actually Nanaimo District Secondary School), but to access Meeting Room A, you proceed south on Wakesiah Avenue (from Bowen, or 3rd Street) past the Aquatic Centre and then NDSS, turn right at the driveway that is between the School Board Office (395 Wakesiah), and the stand-alone Band Room of NDSS. Proceed down the driveway until you see the parking lot on the right.
Meeting Room A has the wheel-chair ramp on the western wall facing the parking lot.
